Up Next: “Throne of Glass” by Sarah J Maas

throne-of-glassI’ve heard a few good things about this book and I’ve also heard a few not-so-good things about this book. I was a little hesitant to dive into it and see which end of the spectrum it will fall on for me personally, but then it popped up on the Kindle Daily Deal for 99 cents and I figured I might as well.

Whether I will end up liking this book remains to be seen but more than that I’m sort of hoping that I might have found a YA book/series that might have an interesting female protagonist for once. All of the other popular ones wind up grating on me a bit by the time I’m done because the author can’t help but fall back on well-liked clichés for the female lead and it falls apart.

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her… but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best. Then one of the other contestants turns up dead… quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
