Top 10 Tuesday: Characters I’d Like to Switch Places with for 24 Hours

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish every Tuesday. Be warned, my entries don’t always follow the prescribed topical schedule of everyone else who participates in the meme because I pick the ones that interest me the most.

Having the ability to switch places with a favorite character in a book would have to be one of the greatest superpowers I can imagine. There are so many amazing worlds to be found in books along with great adventures and harrowing escapes. The chance to switch places for a day would be pretty cool if you ask me.

When approaching this topic I decided that I would dispense with the notion of being worried about dying if I were to switch places with a particular character. I figure if I have the power to make the switch happen I’m likely going to have the odds of surviving on my side. And besides, that makes it more fun!

So, here are the 10 characters I would switch with for a day:

Corran Horn from Rogue Squadron
Corran isn’t just in one book, but this is the first book in the Star Wars Expanded Universe where he makes an appearance. If starfighters were real I would want to be a starfighter pilot in the worst possible way. If I were a star fighter pilot I would want to be just like Corran Horn who in my opinion would have a serious chance of winning the title of “Biggest Badass in Star Wars” if such titles were actually awarded.

Matrim Cauthon from The Wheel of Time Series
If you thought a member of the big three from The Wheel of Time wasn’t going to make it onto this list you were sorely mistaken. I love all three of Rand, Perrin, and Mat, but Mat is far and away my favorite because he was the one who had the memories of old military commanders implanted into his head. His adventures are always the most outrageous of the three and when reading these books I want to be Mat so badly.

Walker Boh from Shannara
Who wouldn’t want to be the crotchety old druid who doesn’t seem to ever die and manages to have a solution for whatever hair-brained monstrosity is trying to take over the world next? I know I want a chance! Walker Boh is just awesome.

Ron Weasley from Harry Potter
Everyone wants to be Harry, but I think Ron is the far more interesting character, and let’s not forget, he gets the girl in the end after all. Magic, wizards, going to school to be a wizard, that sounds like some mighty fun stuff even if it was only for a day.

John Galt from Atlas Shrugged
Leading a movement to remove all of the industrial elite from society? Bringing down the national economy one piece at a time to prove a point? Come on! John Galt is living one of the most exciting and intriguing lives I’ve ever seen. Having the chance to spend a day in Galt’s Gorge would be so cool and who knows, maybe I would get the chance to help someone disappear and join my cause.

Shaun Mason from the Newsflesh Trilogy
Poking zombies still doesn’t sound like the most healthy of long-term occupations, but I would give it a try for a day, why not. Plus, Shaun gets to hang out with some seriously interesting people in these books and more than anything I would want the chance to talk to the rest of them as well. Especially Georgia, Beks, and Alaric. Talk about some crazy campfire stories.

Ender from Ender’s Game
I want to switch places with Ender for one reason and one reason only: to try out the battle room that he spends so much time in during the book. As a kid I thought being able to fight battles inside a big room in zero gravity was one of the coolest things that had ever been thought up. I’d love to switch places with Ender and then see if I could lead my rag-tag bunch of boys to victory as well as he could.

Katniss from The Hunger Games
Because I’ve decided I’m not worried about dying during my 24 hours I switch with a character I figure that participating in a giant deathmatch could result in a pretty interesting day. Although, I have to say that if I switch with Katniss I’m going to be a lot less hesitant to let those arrows fly and I’m gonna take the fight to the rest of the participants inside that giant dome of death.

Rand al’Thor from The Wheel of Time
You hold within you the power to burn the world to a crisp in seconds or to save it from eternal torment and damnation. Which do you choose?

Kaladin from The Way of Kings
The down on his luck hero from The Way of Kings seems like the perfect character to switch places with for a day. I’d love the chance to command a bridge crew like he does and the opportunity to fool around with Stormlight can’t be passed up.
